Auburndale, FL | The Scarlet Raiders scored four runs in the top of the sixth to down Centre College, 8-4, for their second win of the season. The win is coming off of an 8-3 win yesterday afternoon which was the Scarlet Raiders' first win of the year.
Rutgers-Newark (2-3) tallied 13 hits for the second game in a row and committed just one error in the field. Centre College (11-6) picked up just their second loss in five outings after committing three errors.
Dominic Magliaro was sublime on the base path this afternoon, scoring three times while going 2-for-5 with an RBI.
John Klimowich needed just one hit (1-for-4) to bring a pair of Scarlet Raiders home while
Connor Clare finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and crossed the dish twice.
Anthony Rosoline (1-1) hurled 97 pitches in his first win of the season and allowed four runs, two of which were earned, while striking out six and walking a pair.
David Vasquez,
Nicholas Casaleggio, and
Marcus James all tossed a scoreless inning with Casaleggio and James needing just seven pitches to get out of the inning.
The Scarlet Raiders got off to a hot start as
Luke Magliaro hit a one-out solo home run over the left field fence. Clare would look at one pitch before being struck sending him over to first base.
Kevin Tamsula quickly moved Clare over to second before both advanced one base after D. Magliaro was tossed out at first. The scoring wasn't over for the Scarlet Raiders as Klimowich reached via an error by the shortstop which allowed Clare to come home and double their lead.
Centre was able to cut in the lead in half after an error aided them by prolonging the inning enough to allow a run to pass home. The Colonels were able to tie the game up at two in the bottom of the third after the opening two batters got on base. Schat would lay down a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position for Centre. Falbo would hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field to allow Ahrens to come home and tie the game up.
Rutgers-Newark would take the lead back in the top of the fifth after D. Magliaro tripled to left field followed by a sacrifice fly by Klimowich. The Scarlet Raiders blew the game open in the top of the sixth with four runs. The Scarlet Raiders rebounded nicely from two quick outs with a pair of doubles that moved their runners around the bases.
Centre tried to answer back with a pair of runs but was stifled by a fresh arm on the mound and solid defensive play. Rutgers-Newark added an insurance run in the top of the 9th as they shut down the Colonels in the final three innings of play.
The Scarlet Raiders will move back over to Kissimmee, FL tomorrow morning when they take on Lawrence University at 11:30 a.m.
