Newark, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders men's tennis squad had their home opener this afternoon when they squared off against the Rangers of Drew University on the Golden Dome Tennis Courts. The Rangers were able to defeat the Scarlet Raiders 8-1 this afternoon.
Rutgers-Newark (0-2) had a promising showing in the doubles portion of the match on court two. Â
Veer Kachhiapatel and
Richard Nguyen dominated the visiting Rangers, 8-2, to cap off the doubles portion of the match.Â
When play switched to singles, Drew University swept the courts.
Sebastian Narath nearly gave the Scarlet Raiders their second win of the afternoon. Narath opened with a 6-4 win before falling in the following two sets.
Alan Yu battled on court three but came up short, falling 6-3, 6-2 to Will Morrison.
Vihang Patel looked as if he was going to make a comeback on court six but was stifled by Bret Schuler.
Veer Kachhiapatel was the first match finished during singles play, however, he found himself on the wrong side of a 6-2, 6-0 scoreline.Â
