NEWARK, N.J. | The Scarlet Raider baseball team had their three-game win streak snapped at the hands of New York University this afternoon at Weequahic Park. The Violets downed Rutgers University-Newark 10-1 four their fourth win in five games.
Rutgers University-Newark (12-16) went deep into their bullpen in the loss with only
Daniel Reardon (0-1) tossing more than one inning. Reigning NJAC Player of the Week,
John Klimowich, had the only dual hit performance of the afternoon, going 2-for-4 from the plate.
Luke Magliaro was 1-for-2 with the lone run in favor of the Scarlet Raiders.Â
New York University (20-10) was led by Ford Ladd (7-2) on the mound as he tossed 69 pitches and allowed just two hits with four strikeouts. At the dish, Grant Berman was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of runs while Zane Baker finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.Â
The Violets broke the deadlock in the top of the second inning when Baker singled through the left side to bring home Berman who had reached earlier with a single to right center. NYU followed that up with four runs in the top of the third to blow the game open. With a pair of runners already on the bags, Berman sent one over the left field wall to increase their lead to 5-0.
NYU would scatter two more runs over the fifth and sixth inning before the Scarlet Raiders finally got on the board. L. Magliaro was hit by the first pitch to put him on the bases and was moved over to third by a double to left field via Klimowich.
Chris Suleski would ground out into a double play but not before L. Magliaro scored to prevent the shutout.
The visiting Violets tallied three more runs in the 9th to put the game out of reach for the Scarlet Raiders.Â
Rutgers University-Newark tallied five hits and one error in the game while NYU picked up 15 hits and played clean baseball in the field.Â
The Scarlet Raiders will look to bounce back on Thursday, April 26 where they will play host to Ramapo College in an NJAC showdown with playoff implications on the line.Â
