Ramapo Downs Scarlet Raiders in Grudge Match, 3-2

UNION, N.J. | With the Scarlet Raiders entering themselves into the winner's bracket after taking down #1 seeded Rowan University, 6-4 they set up a grudge match with Ramapo College. The Roadrunners took the first game 6-1 earlier in the series before the Scarlet Raiders took down Ramapo in the second, 12-6.  In the third installment, Ramapo used a late run to break the deadlock and win the game 3-2 to avoid being eliminated from the NJAC Tournament.

Anthony Rosoline (4-3) broke the century strikeout mark for his career this afternoon by picking up seven strikeouts in the loss.  Rosoline went the distance for Rutgers University - Newark (16-18) while allowing 12 hits with zero walks. Michael Streim had a successful day at the plate finishing 2-for-3 with a walk while both Connor Clare and John Klimowich tallied an RBI with their lone hit.

Ramapo College (24-13) used a trio of pitchers to stay alive with CJ Browney leading the way with seven innings pitched with four strikeouts and three walks. Kyle Haag came in for a pair of batters before giving way to Greg Westhelle for the final 1.1 innings. Vincenzo Sita used his only hit of the day to drive in two runs while both Philip Mahlik and Kyle Buser tallied three hits.

The Scarlet Raiders came out aggressive like they have during their four-game win streak and scored an early run in the bottom of the opening frame. NJAC first teamer Ryan Zucker used a single to right field to put him on the bases before Clare double down the left field line which allowed Zucker to cross the dish.

The Roadrunners loaded the bases with their first three at-bats in the top of the fourth using a pair of singles and an error to do so. Sita singled through the left side to give Ramapo a 2-1 lead.

Klimowich tied it up in the bottom of the next inning with a single through the left side to score Clare who reached on a walk earlier in the inning.

With both teams knotted at two and Ramapo facing elimination, both teams tightened up their defense's as the winning run didn't come until the 9th inning.

Timpanelli brought in Mahlik with a single through the hot corner before Hardy flew out to give Rutgers University - Newark one last shot. The Scarlet Raiders were unable to find the run they needed handing them their first loss of the tournament and setting them up for a game against #2 Kean University.

The Scarlet Raiders will face the Cougars tomorrow at 12:00 pm in Union, NJ in an elimination game.
