Kellenberger Keeps Win Streak Alive With Extra Time Goal, 1-0

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. | Bailey Kellenberger was the hero this afternoon with a game-winning goal in overtime. Rutgers University-Newark (5-3) went into this afternoon's game on a three-game win streak and was able to extend that to four over Old Westbury (4-2) with a 1-0 extra-time win.

The Panthers came into today's game on a similar win streak and outscored their opponents 12-1 over their three-game win streak. Today they were held to just two shots as a team while the Scarlet Raiders peppered the net with 17 shots with seven on target.

Rutgers University-Newark threatened early and often but saw all of their attempts miss the mark. Out of their six first-half shots, none put Yakeline Umanzor to work as they all whizzed by the goal an out of danger.

It wouldn't take long out of the halftime break for that to change. Tamia Howell put the first shot on target for the Scarlet Raiders in the 46th minute which was followed up by a shot by Breanna Costa. Costa's shot would be blocked by an OW defender. Kellenberger once again challenged Umanzor but Umanzor was up for the challenge and made the save to keep the Scarlet Raiders off of the scoreboard.

The game would head into overtime as the Panthers absorbed wave after wave of attacks during regulation. The Scarlet Raiders would eventually find the key to unlock the defense in the third minute of extra time. Howell would thread a through ball to Kellenberger who was able to tuck it home for the game-winner and her third goal of the season.

Heidi Paulson had a relatively easy afternoon between the pipes as she was called upon to make just one save in the game.

Up next for the Scarlet Raiders is The College of New Jersey on Saturday, September 21 down in Ewing, NJ for their first NJAC contest of the season.
