NEWARK, N.J. | The women's tennis squad played on their home court for just the second time this season. In a late afternoon New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match, Rutgers University-Newark (1-2) picked up their first win of the season with a 7-2 victory over William Paterson (0-4).
The duo of
Nell Karpinski and
Bryanna Thaxton were first on the board for the Scarlet Raiders, knocking off Ashley Sawyer and Nicole D'Ascoli, 8-6.
Sugandhi Yerram Reddy and
Sophia Raza followed up with an 8-6 win of their own from court two.
Sita Suwanetr and
Natalie Hernandez won by default on court three.
Karpinski carried her momentum over from doubles into singles play and was once again the first one to finish. Karpinski disposed of her opponent, 6-0, 6-2, to give the Scarlet Raiders a 4-0 lead. The Pioneers would cut into the lead with wins from the second and third slot.
Sophia Raza cruised to a win on court four with via a 6-3, 6-0 scoreline.Â
The Scarlet Raiders will return to action on Friday, September 20 when they travel to Camden, NJ for their second consecutive NJAC match.
