GLASSBORO, NJ | For the first time this season the men's basketball team allowed more than 80 points in a game. The Scarlet Raiders dropped their second straight, falling 84-66 on the road against the Profs.
Rutgers University-Newark (10-6, 6-3) saw
Chase Barneys lead all scorers with a career-high 30 points. Barneys shot 8-for-13 from the floor, 3-for-4 from behind the arc, and 11-for-13 from the free-throw line. Â
Mike Vick and
David Logan each added 10 points while Vick pulled down five rebounds.
Jamir Patterson came off of the bench and scored seven points and led the team with six rebounds.
Rowan University (8-8, 4-5) had six players score double-digits with Connor Dickerson leading the way with 18. Austin Kearney scored 10 points and led the team with 9 rebounds while Ryan O'Leary and Jerry Price each added 14 points.Â
The Profs got off to a strong start, scoring seven points while the Scarlet Raiders only managed to score two. Â Rowan University saw their lead expand to 11 with 6:26 remaining in the first half of the game. Barneys cut the lead down to just three, however, the Profs answered with a bucket of their own. Vick cashed in on a jumper to once again bring the lead down to just three but Rowan would hit free-throws down the stretch to send them into the locker room with a seven-point lead.
In the second half,
Quincy Rutherford hit a three-point basket to cut the lead down to one, 47-46. Four minutes later, Rowan pushed their lead back out to double-digits. The Scarlet Raiders continued to keep the game within reach until the Profs went on a 9-0 run which swung the momentum into Rowan's favor and halted the Scarlet Raiders' comeback attempt.Â
The Profs would hold onto their lead and cruise to their fourth NJAC win.
The men return to action on Wednesday, January 22 when they host Ramapo College in their second meeting of the season.
