NEWARK, NJ | The now 3-0 Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders took care of the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute in straight sets this evening at the Golden Dome. The Scarlet Raiders won 25-5, 25-7, and 25-7 to improve to 3-0 on the year while the Cannoneers fell to 0-2.
The first set was dominated by the Scarlet Raiders, specifically sophomore
Arvind Kumar who secured five kills. The Scarlet Raiders used their size and power to lead from wire-to-wire in the opening set and didn't surrender a point until after they were already ahead, 6-0. Freshmen
Justin Tuohy and
Andrew Zaleck both added three service aces during the opening set as they were able to pick apart the Cannoneers' defense.
The remainder of the match was controlled by
Eric Hollenbach, and
David Mrowko whom both came away with six kills apiece in their two sets of play.
Travis Emenaker whom at one point recorded four service aces in a row finished the match with nine.
On the other side, Pratt was led by Devin Dzierba who finished the match with three kills of his own.
They will look to keep the good times rolling and stay undefeated when they take on Stevenson University next Thursday at the Golden Dome in Newark, NJ.
