PITMAN, NJ | The New Jersey Athletic Conference released their weekly awards this afternoon and four Scarlet Raiders made the cut.
Andrew Zaleck won NJAC Player of the Week,
Jake Connors earned NJAC Defensive Player of the Week,
Justin Tuohy picked up NJAC Rookie of the Week while
Chaheen Payne recorded his third NJAC Field Athlete of the Week accolade.
Zaleck amassed 37 kills over three matches which included No. 12 Stevenson and No. 3 Stevens Institute. In the win over Stevens, he tallied a career-high 18 kills and hit .467 in the win. He also added a pair of blocks in the win to go along with three digs. Zaleck has propelled the Scarlet Raiders to a 6-0 start this season and currently ranks No. 11 in the nation with 4.14 kills per set. He also leads the Scarlet Raiders with 58 kills on the year.
Jake Connors tallied a season-high 15 digs against Stevenson then added 10 more over the course of two matches to help keep the Scarlet Raiders undefeated. Connors consistently kept rallies alive with his digs at the backline which helped Tuohy set up his teammates with the best pass possible.
Tuohy secured a career-high 50 assists against Stevenson then followed that up with 14 against Eastern and 38 against Stevens. Tuohy ranks second in the nation in assists per set with 11.14 and sits first on the team with 156 through six matches. He also ranks second on the team with 10 service aces which sits behind only
Travis Emenaker who is currently ranked seventh in the nation.
Payne once again triple jumped his way to an NJAC award, his third of the season, after placing third at the University of Albany Winter Classic. Payne jumped 14.49m (47ft 6.47in) and was only one of two Division III athletes to make it inside the top-10.
