MBB Comes Up Short Against Stockton, 64-52

GALLOWAY, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders men's basketball team ended their regular season tonight on the losing end of the, 64-52, scoreline against Stockton University. Rutgers University-Newark received the fourth seed and will host #5-seeded New Jersey City University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Quarterfinals on Saturday, February 22 at 7:30 pm in Newark, NJ. 

Rutgers University-Newark (14-11, 10-8) was led by Mike Vick's 14 points on 50% shooting from the floor. Vick dished out a team-high five assists along with Chase Barneys who also added 12 points. On the boards, Jamir Patterson led secured a team-high six rebounds and finished third on the team with 10 points.

Stockton University (17-8, 14-4) secured the second seed in the NJAC with the win this evening. Othniel Nyamekye paced the Ospreys with 12 points and seven rebounds while Kyion Flanders registered 10 points off of the bench. Jordan Taylor and Kadian Dawkins each dished out a team-high four assists.

Patterson cut the lead down to one, 17-16, in the first half with a three-point bucket with 7:04 left. Stockton responded and pushed the lead out to eight to send them into the half with a 31-23 lead.

In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders knotted the game up at 41 before Vick converted from behind the arc to give his team a three-point lead. Stockton responded with three of their own which set up Dante Ralph to cash in from range to return the lead to his squad.

With the score tied at 47, Stockton went on an 8-0 run once again which they held onto and increased in over the final four minutes. 

The Scarlet Raiders will look to rebound on Saturday in the NJAC Quarterfinals at 7:30 pm.
