Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Tom Krychkowski

No. 6 Men's Volleyball Powers Past CVC Opponent, Neumann, 3-0

ASTON, Pa. | No. 6 ranked Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball program returned to their winning ways on Tuesday night against Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) opponents, Neumann University. The Scarlet Raiders cruised to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-14) win to increase their sweep total to 11.

No. 6 Rutgers University-Newark (17-1, 4-0) hit .432 as a squad and secured 14+ kills in each set with a high of 19 in sets one and two. Elan Dorkhman led the team with 14 kills on 30 attacks and was followed up by Robert Long's 13 and Daniel Quays 10 kills. Antonio Rocchio and Travis Emenaker set the team up to the tune of 26 and 12, respectively. Matt Nikishin and Jake Connors both finished with a team-high 12 digs.

Neumann University (4-15) was led by Ryan Bollinger's seven kills on the night. Jules Maiorano paced the team with 17 assists while Conner Kolek added five digs.

Rutgers-Newark dominated the opening set, taking down the Knights by the biggest margin, 25-11, in the match. The Knights stayed with the Scarlet Raiders and even cut the lead down to two, 12-10, midway through the set. The Scarlet Raiders had a 13-1 outburst to close out the opening set as the Knights had no response.

It was much of the same for the Scarlet Raiders in the second set, as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead before a service error put a tally on the board for the Knights. Just when Neumann began to make a comeback the Scarlet Raiders went on a 6-0 run to push the game too far out of reach to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

With a 2-0 lead, the Scarlet Raiders kept the pressure on and didn't allow Neumann to push the match further than three sets.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Thursday, March 12 when they host Brooklyn College at 7:00 pm at the Golden Dome.
