RUN Baseball Cruises Past Neumann, 12-2

NEWARK, NJ | A 9-run second inning by the Scarlet Raiders burst the game open as they went on to cruise past Neumann, 12-2 at Weequahic Park in non-conference action.

Rutgers University-Newark (5-6) Chris Suleski finished 3-for-5 and led the squad with four RBIs. Adam Thompson scored three runs and went 3-for-5 from the dish with two RBIs. David Vasquez got the start on the hill and picked up his first win of the season after striking out eight with one earned run allowed.

Neumann (4-7) Z. Ray recorded two hits in three trips to the plate while Urena tallied the lone RBI for the Knights.

The Knights were first on the board after scoring a run in the top of the first after Urena singled through the left side to bring home Fowler who hit a single to center field earlier in the inning.

The Scarlet Raiders responded with a pair of runs of their own. Adam Thompson hit an infield single which brought home Connor Clare after he reached on a single to the third baseman.     Armando Alvarez reached via base on balls which moved Thompson over to second, putting him in scoring position. Chris Suleski would take two pitches before belting one to center field to allow Thompson to cross the dish and put the Scarlet Raiders up, 2-1.

Neumann knotted the game up at two in the top of the second before the Scarlet Raiders surged to a 9-run second inning. With Lisandro Ulerio and Jamir Ramos singling to get on base, Clare tripled to left field to clear the bases and add two more runs to their tally. Clare wouldn't wait on third for long as Thompson singled through the left side to bring him home. After a few more runs by the Scarlet Raiders, Andre Tirso added another pair with a two-RBI double to center field.

Rutgers University-Newark added another insurance run in the bottom of the third before scoring came to a halt for both teams as neither team would register a run for the remainder of the game.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Wednesday, March 25 when they host MIT.
