GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. | The Scarlet Raiders kept their season alive this evening after getting revenge on Drew University to advance to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) semifinal. The men's basketball team got revenge on the Rangers who beat them earlier this season, 78-63. This evening, the Scarlet Raiders picked up a 71-54 win against the Rangers to advance to the ECAC Championship game against the top seed, Gwynedd Mercy.
Rutgers University-Newark (18-12) was led by Jamir Patterson and Quincy Rutherford's 16-points each as they were the only pair of Scarlet Raiders to pass the double-digit threshold. Chase Barneys continues to prolong his senior campaign as he led the squad with team-high eight rebounds. Mike Vick led the attack for the Scarlet Raiders with four assists.
Drew University (21-7) had their season come to a close tonight with the second-most wins in program history. In the loss, the Rangers were led by Riley Collins' 12 points and Matthew Capozzoli's 10 points. Howard McBurnie paced the squad with seven rebounds.
The Scarlet Raiders led for all but 21 seconds in the game and used an 8-0 run in the first half to extend their lead to nine, 22-13. Defense was at the forefront for the Scarlet Raiders in this bout as they held the Rangers to 54 points which was their lowest output of the season. Rutgers-Newark held off the Rangers' comeback attempts in the first half as they saw their lead swell to 12 before heading into the locker room.
Dante Ralph gave the Scarlet Raiders their largest lead of the game, 20, with 2:12 left after banking his shot off of the glass. Drew tried to quickly cut into the Scarlet Raiders' lead, however, they saw the clock hit zero as the Scarlet Raiders defense bamboozled the Rangers all night long.
