Goals By Ettayebi & Howard Secure One Point Against Stockton In NJAC Clash

NEWARK, NJ | On a rain-soaked pitch against Stockton University, Rutgers-Newark and Stockton would play to a 2-2 draw at Frederick Douglass Field under the lights. The Scarlet Raiders slide to 7-4-3, 1-4-2 while the Osprey's move to 10-3-3, 4-1-2.

The women's soccer squad came out against Stockton with a purpose. Currently sitting 8th in the standings with just four points despite outplaying several of their opponents Rutgers-Newark capitalized early. The Ospreys came in confident but the Scarlet Raiders quickly broke through that wall when Leila Ettayebi cut through a pair of defenders and curled it into the bottom right corner.

15 minutes later, Tamia Howell came sprinting down the left flank and made her way into the box where she was fouled and awarded a free kick. Camila Howard stepped to the spot confidently and powered it past Kylee Sullivan who dove in the correct direction. With a 2-0 lead, the Scarlet Raiders kept the pressure on, however, Stockton would find a kink in the armor. With the ball bouncing around in the Scarlet Raiders' 18-yard box, Bri Honse passed the ball to Rylee Getter who was able to beat Katie McLaughlin high to the left side.

Just moments later Ettayebi had a chance to double her tally but overran the bobble by the goalie and was unable to put the shot towards goal. The Scarlet Raiders would take their 2-1 lead into the half to try and carry their momentum over to the second stanza.

Stockton came out strong in the second half and bombarded the Rutgers-Newark back line with wave after wave of attacks. The constant pressure paid dividends for the Ospreys in the 57th minute when Sydney Williams scored a free-kick from 25 yards out to even the game out at two. After Stockton scored the equalizer, both squads settled down and waited for an opening to attack.

In extra time, the Scarlet Raiders had one shot while Stockton took three. Rutgers-Newark had chances to win in extra time, however, the passes were deflected away and out of harm.

Up next for the Scarlet Raiders is Drew University who they will host on Wednesday, October 20 at 7:30 pm.
