Offensive Explosion By #RUNWSOC Knocks Off Drew, 3-1, On Senior Night

NEWARK, NJ | Howell scored a brace and Ettayebi converted a penalty kick in the 3-1 win over Drew University this evening in non-conference action at Frederick Douglass Field. The win boosts the Scarlet Raiders' record to 8-4-3 while Drew tumbles to 6-8-1 on the year.

Tonight the Scarlet Raiders honored their six seniors (Iria Diaz, Sabria Glasgow, Maria Miranda, Jasmin Erichsen, Ana Silveira and Breanna Costa) prior to the game with each receiving a commemorative photo.

The Scarlet Raiders once again looked comfortable on their home turf, coming off of the 2-2 draw against Stockton University. The women battled against the Rangers early on and threatened but saw their attempts go wide of the mark. It wasn't until the 25th minute when Sabria Glasgow found Tamia Howell from 25 yards out. Howell created a foot of space and put her laces on the ball which sailed over Anthi Panayides head and into the back of the net.

Glasgow was determined to get a goal of her own in the first stanza, however, her header attempt from inside the six went just high. The Scarlet Raiders continued to pepper the Rangers until they took their 1-0 lead into the half.

Drew University came out of the half with a new sense of urgency and wasted no time to tie up the game at one. Just one minute after the page turned, Rebecca Racine threaded a pass to Alexa Krause who was able to tuck her shot under Katie McLaughlin. Rutgers-Newark made sure the game wouldn't remain deadlocked for long. The duo of Glasgow and Howell teamed up once again when Glasgow wiggled free inside the 18 and toe poked a pass to Howell. Howell then held her defender off and put her shot into the bottom left corner to double her tally for the contest.

Rutgers-Newark almost added a third tally, however, after a flurry of four shots the final attempt soared over the top of the goal and away from harm. That third goal would come in the 72nd minute when Leila Ettayebi was taken down in the box and awarded a penalty kick. The freshman from Clifton, NJ confidently stepped up to the spot and buried her attempt in the bottom right corner to give the Scarlet Raiders a 3-1 lead over the Rangers.

The Scarlet Raiders continued to dominate possession and kept the pressure on the Rangers while shutting down any offensive threat that came their way.

Up next for the Scarlet Raiders is a battle against Rutgers-Camden on Saturday at 1pm in Camden, NJ.
