Stout Defense Leads #RUNWBB Past St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, NJ | Samiyah Horton and the Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball squad won their second straight with a 61-43 win over St. Elizabeth.

Rutgers-Newark (3-2) was led by Horton's 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor. As a team, the Scarlet Raiders shot 35% from the floor and held St. Elizabeth (0-4) to 24.4%. Horton and Eliana Huancaya each recorded a team-high four steals while Elisha India Cross led the charge with three assists. 

The Scarlet Raiders opened up the game with their best quarter of the season, pouring in 23 points while holding St. Elizabeth to just three. Rutgers-Newark added 10 points in the second to take a 33-14 lead into the half. Rutgers-Newark used quick hands on defense to force a season-high 46 turnovers as St. Elizabeth struggled to move the ball.

Rutgers-Newark didn't let up out of the break and scored 14 points in each remaining quarter as they cruised to their third win of the season.
