Slow First Half Dooms #RUNWBB Against John Jay

NEW YORK, NY | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball squad dropped a non-conference bout to John Jay College on Tuesday night, 72-64. The win moves John Jay to 5-5 while the loss drops the Scarlet Raiders to 3-7 on the season.

Rutgers-Newark was led by Ebony Odom Barnes' 14 points and 8 rebounds while Samiyah Horton added 13 points of her own. Tracey Ilderis led the team with 9 rebounds and Lourdes Marasigan scored a career-high 9 points.

For the Bloodhounds Katie Healy led the way with 24 points and 19 rebounds while Bobbi Green added 21.

Strong defense powered the Bloodhounds in the first half as the Scarlet Raiders shot just 9-for-33 and scored just 23 points. Down 15 at the half, the Scarlet Raiders revamped their game plan and came out stronger in the second half. Rutgers-Newark was able to cut the lead down to five with 43 seconds to go in the third quarter with a layup by Brya Byrd

After outscoring the Bloodhounds 20-13 in the third, the Scarlet Raiders were poised to complete the comeback to end their losing skid. John Jay would rebound in the fourth and match the Scarlet Raiders' 21 points to keep Rutgers-Newark at bay to even their record out to .500.
