Drew Snaps #RUNMBB's Four-Game Win Streak, 63-56

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball squad had their four-game win streak snapped against non-conference foes, Drew University on Saturday afternoon at The Golden Dome, 63-56.

Rutgers-Newark (8-3) was led by Abe Kromah's 15 points while BJ Honis and Quincy Rutherford added 13 and 12, respectively. Kromah and Honis also topped the team with 9 and 8 boards apiece. Drew (5-5) received 21 points from Malcolm Newman while Howard McBurnie, Jr finished with a 14 point, 11 rebound double-double.

The Scarlet Raiders and the Rangers went blow-for-blow at the beginning of the game with the game stalling at 8-8. From there, the Rangers went on a five-minute, 14-5 run, to take a 20-13 lead. Jamir Patterson and Abe Kromah each cashed in on a bucket to cut the lead down to just three. Drew, however, pushed their lead back out to eight to take a 27-19 lead over the Scarlet Raiders at The Golden Dome.

Down eight in their home arena, the Scarlet Raiders rallied and went on an 11-8 run to cut the lead down to just three as they went to the break.

With momentum on their side heading into the locker room, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to carry that over to the second half as they shot 29% from the floor as a team and added just 24 points to their total. Down seven with 10 minutes to go, the Scarlet Raiders would be held scoreless for a six-minute stretch which kept them from charging ahead. Tyrone Bowens gave the Scarlet Raiders some life and broke the scoring drought with a jumper to cut the lead down to five, however, Rutgers-Newark was not able to continue finding the bottom of the net as Drew held off the Scarlet Raiders in non-conference action.
