WBB Drops Second Straight Against William Paterson, 67-42

WAYNE, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball squad fell for the second time in as many days to William Paterson University, 67-42. 

Rutgers University-Newark (2-2, 2-2 NJAC) was led by Samiyah Horton's 14 points which were backed by Syncere Lamberts and Ebony Odom Barnes' 7 points. Odom Barnes also added a team-high seven rebounds in the loss. 

William Paterson University (2-2, 2-2 NJAC) leveled their record this afternoon behind Justina Cabezas' game-high 18 points and 17 rebounds. A trio of Pioneers added 12 points apiece, (Brianna Smith, Yakira Rosa, Brianna Brooks). Cabezas also led the team with six assists.

The Scarlet Raiders were unable to muster up the same magic from last night against the Pioneers en route to their first road loss of the season. William Paterson had an explosive second quarter where they scored 20 points which pushed their lead out to 11 headed into the half.

Last night the third quarter was where the Scarlet Raiders found their stride, however, this afternoon that would not be the case. The Scarlet Raiders' offense went cold in the third while the Pioneers picked up right where they left off from the previous quarter. 

Rutgers University-Newark needed a big outburst in the final stanza and despite them shooting 40% from the field, it wasn't enough to overcome their deficit. 

The women's basketball team returns to action on Friday, February 19 when they host Montclair University at 7:00 p.m. for more New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action.
