Softball's Bats Remain Cold Against Stockton

GALLOWAY, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark softball team took on Stockton University this afternoon in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader. Stockton took down Rutgers University-Newark 7-0 in game one and 5-2 in the second game. 

Game 1: Stockton 7, Rutgers-Newark 0 

Rutgers University-Newark (0-5, 0-5 NJAC) received their lone hit from Masha Corbett which came in the top of the 7th. 

Stockton University (1-8, 1-4 NJAC) got off to a quick start, scoring four runs throughout the first two innings. Stockton added another pair of runs in the bottom of the 4th before completing their tally with a run in the 6th. 

Game 2: Stockton 5, Rutgers-Newark 2 

Rutgers University-Newark (0-6, 0-6 NJAC) scattered five hits and scored two runs in game two, and had Jackie Lara go 2-for-4 from the dish. Michelle McMillan went 1-for-3 and tallied the lone RBI for her squad. 

Stockton University (2-8, 2-4 NJAC) tallied 10 hits and scored five runs in their second win of the season. James went 3-for-4 from the plate with 4 RBIs. 

The Ospreys once again wasted no time putting runs up on the scoreboard as they put up three runs in the first two innings. 

Down 3-0 in the top of the 6th, the Scarlet Raiders tallied their first run of the game. Jaclyn Arute started the bats for her team with a single before a fielding error allowed Corbett to successfully reach safely. McMillan hit an RBI single to shallow right-center. 

Stockton quickly answered with a pair of runs before the Scarlet Raiders tallied one more run as they were unable to complete the comeback. 

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Tuesday, April 13 when they play host to Kean University at 3:00 PM.
