#21 Rowan Spoils #RUNSB Senior Day

NEWARK, NJ | Rutgers University-Newark softball ran into #21 Rowan University this afternoon and had their senior day spoiled, 10-0, 12-0 at Frederick Douglass Field on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: #21 Rowan University 10, Rutgers-Newark 0 (5 inn.)

Rutgers University-Newark (2-11, 2-11 NJAC) recorded just one hit in game one and it came from senior Jaclyn Arute who was able to bring her career hit total to 98 with that hit. Paige Masiello (1-5) pitched well for the Scarlet Raiders and tossed 102 pitches and allowed 11 hits and five earned runs.

Rowan University (20-5, 14-1) scattered 11 hits in the win and was led offensively by Payton MacNair who finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Morgan Zane went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and a pair of runs scored. Emily August (9-2) threw 64 pitches in five innings and allowed just one hit while striking out eight.

Rowan opened the game with a pair of runs as Sharma capitalized on an error to reach first. An infield single allowed a run to score as Rowan took a 2-0 lead.

The Scarlet Raiders were unable to solve August as they continued to go down in order. In the bottom of the 4th, Arute hit a lead-off double with hopes to ignite the offense. Masha Corbett laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Arute over to third which is where she was ultimately stranded.

The Profs added four runs in the second and one in the third before tallying a trio of runs in the fifth to activate the run rule to end the game in five innings.

Game 2: #21 Rowan University 12, Rutgers-Newark 0 (5 inn.)

Rutgers University-Newark (2-12, 2-12 NJAC) found more success at the plate in game two than they did in game one as they collected four hits but were unable to cross the dish. Corbett finished 2-for-3 while Michelle McMillan and Megan Tomaselli each added a hit. Jackie Lara (1-5) pitched 4.0 innings of action and threw 88 pitches with one strikeout and one earned run.

Rowan University (21-5, 15-1) picked up right where they left off in game one and scored 12 runs on 12 hits. MacNair once again led the squad, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs. August (10-2) picked up her second win of the day in just 2.0 innings of action in which she struck out three batters.

The Profs did the most of their damage in the second inning where they scored 9 runs as Madison DiGiorgio came in to pitch for the Scarlet Raiders. DiGiorgio allowed 10 hits and 9 earned runs which helped the Profs take control of the game.

McMillan tried to spark the offense in the bottom of the second with a lead-off double, however, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to follow her success as three strikeouts would end the inning.

Rowan added two more runs in the top of the third while Rutgers-Newark was unable to get their bats consistently going.

The Scarlet Raiders will return to action on Tuesday, April 27 at Frederick Douglass Field at 3:00 pm against The College of New Jersey for their final home pairing of the season.
