#RUNSB Drops Twinbill Against Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark softball team went south to take on their counterparts in Rutgers University-Camden this afternoon in their final NJAC doubleheader of the season. Rutgers-Camden took game one, 4-3, and game two, 2-0. 

Game 1: Rutgers-Camden 4, Rutgers-Newark 3

Rutgers University-Newark (2-15, 2-15 NJAC) tallied 9 hits and scored three runs in the loss. Masha Corbett and Jackie Lara each finished with two hits and an RBI apiece. Paige Masiello (1-7) threw 7.1 innings and allowed three runs and eight hits. 

Rutgers University-Camden (7-12, 7-10 NJAC) used eight hits to tally four runs in the game one win. Karlie Kennedy went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI in the win. Sarah Byrnes (7-10) pitched 8.0 innings and struck out six batters and allowed two earned runs. 

Rutgers-Camden was first on the board in the bottom of the first after a single to center field put the first tally on the board. '

Rutgers-Newark would respond in the top of the 3rd with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. Patricia Frech-Reyes hit a lead-off single to get the inning started before Jaclyn Arute singled to center field to move Frech-Reyes over to third. Corbett wouldn't leave the Meredith Moore, who pinch ran for Frech-Reyes, long as she singled through the right side to tally their first run. Jackie Lara singled to right field to double their lead.

Rutgers-Camden leveled the game at two in the bottom of the 6th before the Scarlet Raiders took a one-run lead in the top of the 8th. 

The Scarlet Raiders would fall in dramatic fashion as the Scarlet Raptors won game one with a Kennedy walk-off two-run homer over the left-field wall. 

Game 2: Rutgers-Camden 2, Rutgers-Newark 0

Rutgers University-Newark (2-16, 2-16 NJAC) tallied four hits and three errors in the loss. Jaclyn Arute finished 1-for-3 with a double while Jackie Lara went 2-for-3. Emily Bartus added a hit for the Scarlet Raiders as well.  Lara pitched 6.0 innings and allowed seven hits with one strikeout. 

Rutgers University-Camden (8-12, 8-10 NJAC) scattered seven hits in the 2-0 win. Byrnes went 2-for-3 while Davis added an RBI in the game. Byrnes also helped her own cause in the circle and struck out seven batters. 

In a quiet game offensively the Scarlet Raptors managed to tally both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth. 

Rutgers-Newark was unable to get their bats going on the road in their final doubleheader of the regular season and will now take part in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament.
