Martinez Notches Career High In NJAC Loss To Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball squad suffered their sixth straight loss this afternoon with a 94-61 loss to Rowan University in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play. 

Rutgers-Newark (3-8, 1-6) was led by Kellie Martinez's career-high 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor. Fancy Janvier and Samiyah Horton each added a team-high five rebounds while contributing five and 11 points, respectively. Ebony Odom Barnes found success in the paint and tallied 13 points. 

Dakota Adams led Rowan University (8-5, 6-1) with a 16 point, 10 rebound double-double. Grace Marshall paced the squad with six assists and added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Rowan opened up the contest with their highest output of the game with 27 points while the Scarlet Raiders scored 14. Rutgers-Newark was able to find more success in the second stanza as Odom Barnes cut the lead down to just four before Rowan went on a 16-5 run to jump out to a 15 point lead. 

Disaster struck in the third quarter for the Scarlet Raiders as their offense stalled as they tallied just five points in the third quarter. Rutgers-Newark put forth their best comeback attempt in the fourth with a 24 point quarter, however, Rowan matched that to pick up a crucial NJAC win.
