Kellenberger Pushes #RUNWSOC Past Ramapo

NEWARK, NJ | With the season dwindling down, Bailey Kellenberger stepped in a big way and recorded a brace in a 3-1 win over Ramapo College. The win boosted Rutgers-Newark to 7-8-2, 3-3-1 while Ramapo dropped to 4-8, 1-6.

The Scarlet Raiders came out with a purpose in tonight's NJAC contest against Ramapo and that was evident early on as Bailey Kellenberger almost put Rutgers-Newark up 1-0 in the first 47 seconds. Rutgers-Newark wouldn't have to wait long for their first tally of the game as five minutes later Mariana Valencia struck gold. Tamia Howell came flying down the left flank and sent a low cross into the box which found Valencia's foot where she redirected it into the right netting.

Ramapo had their fair share of offensive opportunities early on as well, however, Katie McLaughlin was up to the challenge and stonewalled her competitors early on. Kellenberger hit the target once again, this time from a corner kick which she curled toward a goal, forcing Makenna Tahbaz to make a save. Kellenberger finally broke through in the 27th minute off of a pass from Valencia. Valencia found space within the defense and slotted a pass to Kellenberger who hit a low-driven shot into the back of the net to double the Scarlet Raiders' lead. Kellenberger wouldn't be denied in this NJAC clash and scored a stunner of a goal with just six seconds before the half to send the Scarlet Raiders into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

At the half, the Scarlet Raiders held a colossal 18-4 edge in shots and put 10 of their 18 attempts on target.

The pace of play slowed in the second stanza until Ramapo found the back of the net with 13 minutes to play. Dina Ayoub was fed a pass by Carla Goodwin to set up a one on one against McLaughlin. Ayoub snuck her shot under and outstretched McLaughlin for her first goal of the season. For the remainder of the game, the Scarlet Raiders kept the ball on Ramapo's side, preventing them from finding their second tally of the game.
