Women's Volleyball Falls to Wilkes in Season Finale

WILKES-BARRE, PA | The Scarlet Raiders women's volleyball season came to a close this afternoon against Wilkes in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-16). Rutgers-Newark concludes their season with a record of 1-18 while Wilkes finished 8-20.

Arisa Khalaj paced the Scarlet Raiders with five kills while Alexis Jones followed up with three. Jackie Rosario tallied a team-high 11 assists while Saniyiah Richardson finished with 11 digs.

The Scarlet Raiders held an 11-9 lead in the opening set, however, they saw their lead disappear after Wilkes went on a 7-2 run to jump ahead 16-13. Behind kills from Yasmin Rodrigues and Maryann Ijeh the Scarlet Raiders went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead down to one. Wilkes closed out the set to take a 1-0 lead with a 3-0 run.

Once again, Rutgers-Newark jumped out ahead but were unable to hold onto the lead as Wilkes used another run to jump in the driver's seat. With a two point lead, Wilkes exploded for a 10-0 run which would seal up the second set to put them up 2-0 in the match.

In a match of runs, it was Wilkes who capitalized on their chances. With the third set knotted at 10, Wilkes ripped off a 7-1 run which firmly put them in the lead. As the set wore on, the Scarlet Raiders offense went cold which allowed Wilkes to further extend their lead. Rutgers-Newark tried to make a comeback at the end, however, their run was cut short as Wilkes won the match in three straight sets.
