Men's Soccer Cruises to 4-1 Over NJCU to Advance to ECAC Championship

READING, PA | The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship after a dominant 4-1 win over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foes, NJCU. The Scarlet Raiders will square off against Penn State Behrend at 12:00 pm at Alvernia University.

Pablo Moreno put the Scarlet Raiders on the board first in the 14th minute when he took a pass from Joe Alba and found the right netting. Rutgers-Newark continued to test Khalid Kwaik as they played the majority of the first half in NJCU's final third. Defender Jonah Dias double Rutgers-Newark's lead in the 40th minute with a spectacular free kick that found the top left corner. Just two minutes later, the Scarlet Raiders' leading goal scorer, Franco Catania cashed in on a pass from Ryan Caruso to send the Scarlet Raiders into the half up 3-0. 

NJCU found their lone goal of the game two minutes after the second half whistle after a deflected pass found the foot of Jorkaef Fallas. Two minutes after NJCU found the back of the net, the Scarlet Raiders struck once more when Ryan Caruso converted a penalty kick to go up 4-1. After posting 10 shots in the first half, the Scarlet Raiders' offense slowed down in the second and tallied just four as they held onto their 4-1 lead to head into the Championship game on Sunday.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Sunday, November 20 when they take on Penn State Behrend in the ECAC Championship game at 12:00 pm.
