#RUNWBB's Rally Comes Up Short On Senior Night

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball team nearly completed the comeback tonight against Stockton but came up just short, 52-46. Before the game tonight, the Rutgers-Newark women's basketball squad honored their lone senior, Zena Aluboudi.

Rutgers-Newark (4-17, 2-15) was led by Cross' 13 points while Horton added 12. Javier finished the game with five points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Stockton (10-13, 8-9) received 14 point nights from both Madison LaRosa and Emma Morrone while Nalya Hill recorded a 12-point, 14 rebound double-double.

The Ospreys of Stockton University came out strong against the Scarlet Raiders on senior night and sprung out to a 16-6 lead after one-quarter of play. Rutgers-Newark made adjustments in the second stanza which saw them lead the quarter 9-6. The Scarlet Raiders played stout defense in the second, forcing the Ospreys into bad shots. On the other end, Fancy Janvier swept the boards with 9 rebounds to give Rutgers-Newark second chance looks which they were able to turn into points.

After the break, the Scarlet Raiders tallied 9 points while the Ospreys tallied their highest quarter of the game with 19. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that the Scarlet Raiders' offense came alive. Rutgers-Newark held Stockton to 11 points in the fourth and scored 22 of their own which put them in position to steal the win at home.

Down 10 with 5:23 to go, the women began to chip away at the lead. Elisha India Cross got the run started with a jumper before hitting another pair of shots for a seven-point swing in their favor. With 26 seconds remaining, Samiyah Horton hit a three to put her team within two. The Scarlet Raiders, however, were unable to continue their run and complete the comeback as Stockton would convert from the charity stripe to close out the game with a six-point win.
