#RUNWBB Offense Stalls As They Fall in NJAC First Round

EWING, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball squad took on #7 seeded The College of New Jersey this afternoon in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament First Round. The Scarlet Raiders fell to the Lions in the NJAC First Round, 85-54, to end their season.

Rutgers-Newark (4-19) was led by Elisha India Cross who scored a season-high 19 points in the loss while Syncere Lambert added 15. Ebony Odom Barnes took charge on the boards and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

TCNJ (12-12) had Julia Setaro lead the way with 13 points while Sydney Blum sat close behind with 12. Missing out on her double-double was Kaitlyn Deiter who tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds.

The Scarlet Raiders opened the game strong against the Lions and had their opponents on their heels as they outscored them 13-11 in the first quarter. TCNJ, however, wouldn't stay in the passenger seat for long as they quickly took the lead in the second quarter. Rutgers-Newark remained resilient and knotted the game up at 22 with 3:54 to go with a Cross jumper.

From there, the Scarlet Raiders' offense stalled as TCNJ went on a 13-2 run to close out the half and take a 35-24 lead into the locker room. Out of the break, TCNJ kept the momentum on their side and outscored the Scarlet Raiders 25-11 and 25-19 in the final two-quarters of play to complete the season sweep of the Scarlet Raiders.

Rutgers-Newark will look to reload their roster for next season as they look for another NJAC Championship.
