No. 5 Rutgers-Newark Upset by Stevenson on the Road

STEVENSON, MD | No. 5 Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball squad had their 10-match win streak snapped at the hands of Stevenson University, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-22).

Rutgers-Newark (11-2) tallied 21 errors in the match while hitting .232 as a team. Andrew Zaleck led the way with 15 kills while Arvind Kumar added 14. Matt Nikishin picked up a team-high 13 digs while Derek Au secured a team-high 41 assists.

In the opening set, the Scarlet Raiders trailed by two before Stevenson took full control of the set with a 6-1 run to take a commanding 20-13 lead. From there each team traded points until Stevenson took the opening set and a 1-0 lead in the match. 

The Scarlet Raiders took an 11-6 lead early in the second set, however, a 7-0 run by Stevenson switched momentum. A kill by Zaleck paired with two attacking errors by Stevenson knotted the set up at 23. Rutgers-Newark was unable to complete the comeback in the second set as Stevenson went up 2-0 in the match. 

In the third and final set, the Scarlet Raiders held a late lead but saw it slip away as Stevenson closed out the match in straight sets.
