MONTCLAIR, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball team squared off against New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foes, Montclair University, tonight and fell, 81-39.

Rutgers-Newark (4-16, 2-14) were led by the interior charge of Fancy Janvier and Ebony Odom Barnes. Janvier and Odom Barnes each tallied eight points with Odom Barnes tallying a team-high seven rebounds.

Montclair (14-7, 11-4) had an outstanding outing from Nickie Carter who poured in 34 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the floor. Trisha Peterson added seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Scarlet Raiders and Red Hawks played out a closely fought opening stanza with Montclair holding a slight five-point edge heading into the second quarter of play. Montclair blew the game open in the second with a 25-point quarter helping to extend their lead to 24 at the break.

Rutgers-Newark matched their first-quarter output with 12 points in the third, however, Montclair topped their second quarter with 26 points out of halftime. The women struggled to find the code to crack Montclair's defense to give them an open shot which led to their 9 point tally in the fourth as they were unable to overcome the offensive firepower by Montclair.
