Softball Splits Day 2 in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC | The Rutgers University-Newark softball squad split the day for the second day in a row after taking down Mt. Aloysius 12-3 in game one before falling in game two against Albertus Magnus, 6-1. 

Game 1: Rutgers-Newark 12, Mt. Aloysius 3

The Scarlet Raiders (2-1) recorded 11 hits as a team and overcame three errors to earn the third game of their trip south. Madison Umlauf led the team by going 3-for-4 from the dish with 4 RBIs while Alex Di Martino finished 1-for-2 with 3 RBIs. In the circle, Michelle Capizzano (1-1) picked up her first win of the season after pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts. 

Mt. Aloysius (2-1) finished the game with three hits after getting off to a 3-1 lead over the Scarlet Raiders. Traci Hauser finished the game with seven strikeouts while Bella Piacesi finished 1-for-3 with 1 RBI. 

Mt. Aloysius quickly jumped ahead of the Scarlet Raiders with a 3-1 lead, however, Rutgers-Newark cut the lead down to just one in the top of the 4th before taking the lead in the 5th. With the lead in hand, the Scarlet Raiders poured on eight runs in the final two innings to secure the win to pick up their second win of the season. 

Game 2: Albertus Magnus 6, Rutgers-Newark 1

Rutgers-Newark (2-2) recorded four hits in game two and committed three errors with four batters each recording one hit. In the circle (1-1) finished the game with six strikeouts and allowed four earned runs. 

Albertus Magnus (4-0) was led by Erin Molkent who finished 3-for-3 while Angelina Ram went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. Erin Dighell earned the win for Albertus Magnus with five strikeouts and allowed just four hits.

Albertus Magnus scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead over the Scarlet Raiders. Albertus Magnus added to their tally with one run in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th before Rutgers-Newark scored on an error.
