Despite Homers by Lara & Tomaselli, #RUNSB Falls To SUNY Poly, 7-5

MYRTLE BEACH, SC | The Scarlet Raiders softball team was unable to complete the comeback this afternoon in the FastPitch Dreams Classic as they fell to SUNY Poly, 7-5.

The Scarlet Raiders (2-3) scattered 13 hits in the loss and committed two errors as a team. Megan Tomaselli continues to bat well for the Scarlet Raiders as she finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI while Jackie Lara also went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Michelle Capizzano (1-2) hurled 4.2 innings and tallied 9 strikeouts while allowing seven hits.

SUNY Poly (1-4) was led by Aeron Hamm who finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI while Trinity Critelli tallied 11 strikeouts. 

SUNY Poly was the first team on the scoreboard when they capitalized on an error to put up two runs and take a 2-0 lead. The Scarlet Raiders responded with a run in the bottom of the 4th when Madison Umlauf hit an RBI single to center field to score Carissa Havens

The Wildcats doubled their tally in the top of the 5th before adding three to their total in the top of the 6th. Down 7-2 heading into their final at-bat, the Scarlet Raiders made one last push to try to send the game into extra innings. Lara, scored her second home run of the season before Tomaselli did the same in the very next at-bat. Rutgers-Newark now trailed by three as Capizzano tried to help her own cause with an RBI single. With two outs and two runs down, the Scarlet Raiders struck out to end their rally.
