Kumar & Zaleck Each Tally 10 Kills as No. 8 #RUNMVB Cruise Past Misericordia

NEWARK, NJ | No. 8 Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball returned to the court for the first time since March, 8 and swept Misericordia, 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-19). 

Arvind Kumar and CVC Player of the Week, Andrew Zaleck, each recorded 10 kills for the Scarlet Raiders (15-2) in the win. Derek Au continued leading the charge for the Scarlet Raiders with 31 assists while Kumar also led the team with 9 digs. 

Misericordia (12-12) was led by Anthony DePalma's 9 kills while Dylan Sellitti paced the team with 20 assists. 

The Scarlet Raiders came out and put on a dominant performance, taking down the Cougars 25-12. As a team, they hit .400 in the opening set and only improved from there. Leading 11-7, the Scarlet Raiders strengthened their lead with a 7-1 run after benefiting from attacking errors and a pair of kills from Au. With the lead firmly in hand, Rutgers-Newark closed out the set on a 6-2 run. 

Up just one in the second set, Rutgers-Newark exploded for a 12-3 run which pushed their lead out to 16-6. The Scarlet Raiders recorded their best hit percentage of the match by hitting .647 en route to a 25-14 win.       

Misericordia put their best foot forward in the third and final set, hitting a robust .471 as a team. The Scarlet Raiders, however, hit .579 as a squad to turn away the Cougars. Rutgers-Newark extended their lead to 16-10 before Misericordia chipped away at the lead before the Scarlet Raiders slammed the door shut to remain unbeaten at home this season.
