Rutgers-Newark rebounded strongly in the second set and jumped out to a 14-7 lead. Wentworth made a push at the end, however, a service ace by Kumar followed by a kill from Hollenbach closed out the set in their favor.

The Scarlet Raiders fell behind 11-4 in the third set, however, they regained their form and battled their way back. Late in the set, Rutgers-Newark cut it down to 23-18 before LaBouliere stopped the Scarlet Raiders' rally with a kill.
