#RUNSB's Offense Halted Against TCNJ

EWING, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders softball team was unable to keep up with the Lions of The College of New Jersey in today's New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader. TCNJ toppled Rutgers-Newark 8-0 and 13-1.

Game 1: TCNJ 8, Rutgers-Newark 0 (6 inn.) 

The Scarlet Raiders (12-15, 4-9) didn't register a hit in game one against the Lions and were charged with four errors. Jackie Lara (6-8) hurled five innings and allowed 12 hits with two strikeouts while Madison DiGiorgio paced the team with a pair of walks. 

TCNJ (24-6, 12-3) scattered 12 hits and played clean softball in the field as they scored eight runs in the with over the Scarlet Raiders. Kaci Neveling and Kayla Hillenbrand each recorded three hits with Hillenbrand leading the way with a pair of RBIs. Ally Schlee (12-0) struck out five batters and picked up a no-hitter for her 12th win of the season.  

In the top of the 2nd inning, the Scarlet Raiders had two runners on the bases after both reached via a base on balls. Both moved over a base after a wild pitch to put them in an even better scoring position. Alex Di Martino connected with the ball, however, it was hit right at the centerfielder who made the grab to end the threat. 

In the 3rd and 4th innings, the Lions plated two runs in each to push their lead out to 6-0.  The College of New Jersey kept the pressure on in the following two innings where they scored two more runs to activate the run-rule to close out the first game of the doubleheader. 

Game 2: TCNJ 13, Rutgers-Newark 1 (5 inn.)

Alex Di Martino prevented the Scarlet Raiders (12-16, 4-10) from being blanked in game two with a solo homerun and finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run. As a team, the Scarlet Raiders collected three hits and didn't commit an error. In the circle, Michelle Capizzano was given the start and allowed 10 hits and 9 runs. 

TCNJ (25-6, 13-3) once again used an offensive onslaught to end the game before the 7th inning. The Lions scattered 18 hits to plate 13 runs backed by an explosive 11-run inning. Victoria Aspiazu paced the Lions with three hits in three at-bats with 4 RBIs. 

The Lions took control of the game in the 2nd inning where they plated 11 runs on the back of back-to-back homeruns. Rutgers-Newark got on the board in the top of the 3rd when Di Martino scored her second homer of the season. 

Rutgers-Newark was unable to get their offense going and close the gap against the Lions as they dropped the second game of today's NJAC doubleheader.

The Scarlet Raiders will host Rutgers-Camden on Thursday at 3:00 pm at Frederick Douglass Field.
