Softball Splits NJAC Twinbill Against Rutgers-Camden

NEWARK, NJ | Rutgers University-Newark softball split a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) bout with Rutgers University-Camden at Frederick Douglass Field, 6-2, 9-8. 

Game 1: Rutgers-Newark 6, Rutgers-Camden 2

Megan Tomaselli led the Scarlet Raiders (13-16, 5-10), going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, while Michelle McMillan and Alex Di Martino added two hits each. Jackie Lara pitched a complete game and tallied three strikeouts and allowed just four hits. 

Rutgers-Camden (7-17, 5-10) was led by Emily Dubiago who finished 2-for-3 in the loss. In the circle, Lindsey Rodzon went six innings and struck out two batters.

The Scarlet Raiders got on the board early and often in game one. Plating two runs in the first inning before adding four more in the 2nd. Tomaselli collected her pair of RBIs in the 1st inning with a 2 RBI double to right center. Then, in the 2nd, Di Martino hit an RBI single before Riley Scuralli stole home. Lara then added another pair to their tally with a 2 RBI single.

Rutgers-Camden scored two runs in the 4th to end the scoring run for both teams. 

Game 2: Rutgers-Camden 9, Rutgers-Newark 8

Riley Scuralli led the Scarlet Raiders (13-17, 5-11) with three hits while Michelle Capizzano led the way with 4 RBIs. 

Rutgers-Camden (8-17, 5-11) was led by Luci Hutchinson and Olivia Bull, both of which tallied two hits and 2 RBIs. Lindsey Rodzon picked up her 5th win of the year with two strikeouts. 

The Scarlet Raiders once again produced runs early, plating four runs to match the four runs by the Scarlet Raptors. Rutgers-Newark then took the  lead in the 4th when Scuralli hit a 2 RBI triple to center field to score both Mia Lopez and Madison DiGiorgio

The Scarlet Raptors responded once more with a pair of runs of their own before Rutgers-Newark answered with one in the bottom of the 5th. Two innings later, Rutgers-Camden tied it up to send the game into extra innings where they would plate another pair of runs to steal a win from the Scarlet Raiders.
