Ettayebi Scores a Brace as #RUNWSOC Downs Sarah Lawrence, 3-0

NEWARK, NJ | Leila Ettayebi extended her goal streak to three straight games this evening when she scored a brace against Sarah Lawrence in a 3-0 win at Frederick Douglass Field. The win boosts the Scarlet Raiders to 4-4-1 while Sarah Lawrence drops to 3-2-1. 

The Scarlet Raiders were on the offensive for a majority of the first half and that constant barrage of attacks paid dividends in the 27th minute. Mariana Valencia threaded a pass to Leila Ettayebi who beat Bridgette Lee with a long curling shot to the back post for her team-high 6th goal of the season. Valencia nearly picked up a goal on her own from Ettayebi, however, Lee made the stop to keep the score at 1-0. 

Janelle Atta came into the game and almost doubled the Scarlet Raiders' tally. Atta received a pass from the right wing and hit her shot off of the crossbar which bounced away from harm. Sarah Lawrence put two shots on target towards the end of the opening stanza but Katie McLaughlin was up to the task and made a pair of saves to keep the Gryphons off of the scoreboard. 

Rutgers-Newark came out with a purpose in the second half when they nearly found the back of the net once again. Bailey Kellenberger stepped over the ball from 25 yards and sent the free-kick off of the crossbar. Camila Howard had a chance at the rebound but sent it wide right of the target. Ettayebi finally broke through for her second goal of the game in the 64th off of a cross from fellow forward, Tamia Howell. 

Camila Howard picked up her 2nd goal of the season in the 73rd minute when she powered the penalty kick into the right net to put her team up 3-0. Play would go back and forth for the remainder of the game as the Scarlet Raiders would complete the shutout.
