#RUNWSOC Defeats Stockton for First Time Since 2009

GALLOWAY, NJ | Four different Scarlet Raiders found the back of the net in a 4-1 win over Stockton University this afternoon. The women's soccer team earn their first win over Stockton since a 2-1 win in 2009 and the first-ever win in Galloway, NJ. With the win, the Scarlet Raiders improved to 5-5-1, 1-0 while Stockton fell to 5-4-1, 0-1.

The four goals scored by the Scarlet Raiders mark the highest tally against Stockton in school history. In an even stat game on paper, it was the Scarlet Raiders who prevailed over the Ospreys. Mariana Valencia opened the scoring ledger for the Scarlet Raiders in the 39th minute after she took advantage of a miscue by Stockton's goalkeeper. Both teams finished the game with 11 shots, however, Rutgers-Newark put eight of them on target, four of which found their way into the back of the net.

Rutgers-Newark took a 1-0 lead into the half and then exploded for three goals in the second. Kicking off the second-half scoring barrage was Bailey Kellenberger. Kellenberger used her skill to dribble around Stockton's netminder for an easy tap-in goal. Sara Ribeiro scored her first collegiate goal seven minutes after Kellenberger, using her head to redirect the ball into the net to give the Scarlet Raiders a comfortable 3-0 lead.

With just six minutes remaining on the clock Leila Ettayebi, the Scarlet Raiders' leading goal scorer, scored her 5th goal in as many games off of a pass from Viviana Valencia. That goal brings Ettayebi's goal tally to eight on the year which ties the leader in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Stockton would finally unlock Rutgers-Newark's defense and found the back of the net in the 86th minute to prevent the shutout on their home pitch.

Up Next:
The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Wednesday, September 28 when they host William Paterson for their second NJAC contest of the season at 7:30 pm.
