Howard's Late Goal Powers #RUNWSOC Past John Jay, 2-1

NEW YORK, NY | Camila Howard converted a free kick in the 77th minute to lift the Scarlet Raiders past John Jay, 2-1 this afternoon to improve to 2-2 this year. John Jay, with the loss, fell to 1-1.

Leila Ettayebi scored her third of the season when picked up a loose ball in the box and beat Alexa Pyatsky for the opening goal of the game. Rutgers-Newark kept the pressure on and tallied five shots in the opening stanza while holding John Jay to just one shot.

In the second half, John Jay scored their first-ever goal against Rutgers-Newark to even the game at 1-1. Katie Healy took advantage of a broken down play to sneak her shot past Katie McLaughlin. With the game level, the Scarlet Raiders increased their offensive attacks which led to a lopsided 12-3 shot tally in the second half.

With 13 minutes remaining on the clock, Howard, the free kick specialist on the team, lived up to her role and beat Pyatsky to put the Scarlet Raiders back in the driver's seat. John Jay nearly knotted game up in the 89th minute, however, McLaughlin came up with a big save to keep Rutgers-Newark unbeaten, 6-0, against John Jay all time.
