Men's Soccer Cruised to a 3-0 Win Over NJCU on Senior Night

NEWARK, NJ | Giuseppe Somma opened the scoring for the Scarlet Raiders as they toppled New Jersey City University, 3-0, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) regular-season finale. Before the game, six seniors, Andrew Solomon, Guiseppe Somma, Bryan Rodriguez, Ryan Caruso, Marlon Rodriguez, and Juwan Ash were honored before the game for senior night. With the win, the Scarlet Raiders will travel down to Stockton University on Saturday for the opening round of the NJAC Tournament. The Scarlet Raiders and Ospreys drew 1-1 during the regular season.

Rutgers-Newark (6-8-4, 4-3-2) tallied 21 shots and put 14 on frame with Pedro Flores making five saves. NJCU (7-7-2, 2-6-1) finished with 11 shots while Nick Linebaugh made 11 saves.

The first half of tonight's game saw shots in bunches but both netminders did well to keep the ball out of their net. Rutgers-Newark was handed a penalty kick with five minutes to go in the first half, however, Linebaugh came up with the save to keep the Scarlet Raiders off of the scoreboard. 

Rutgers-Newark opened the scoring ledger in the 72nd minute when Somma headed in a pass from Rodriguez to post the first marker of the game. Moments late, Dylan Sousa converted from the penalty spot after Erick Cortes was taken out in the box. Cortes would then go on the complete the scoring for Rutgers-Newark with a goal in the 80th minute off of a pass from Marco Menacho.
