Women’s Volleyball Falls to Kean

UNION, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders (9-12) couldn't pick up a set, as Kean (11-9) laid down a quick home victory. Final score: 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-11).

Both teams were fighting hard to start, and then the Cougars got going. They rattled off a 16-2 run that put them up 20-8. From there, they were easily able to take set one and give themselves the early advantage.

Rutgers-Newark came out swinging in set number two. Tracey Ilderis was leading the charge - she finished the match with a team-high 8 kills. With five straight points, the Scarlet Raiders were enjoying a 10-7 lead. However, Kean battled back. They brought it within two at 19-17, and then put up eight straight points to close out the set. 2-0 Cougars.

The third set was all Kean. They were unstoppable, establishing an impressive 19-5 scoreline. The Scarlet Raiders put up some points afterward, but there was too much ground to make up. A dominant win for the Cougars, as Rutgers-Newark's conference record falls to 1-4.

Women's volleyball will look to bounce back this Saturday in a tri-match against FDU-Florham and Gwynedd Mercy. They play at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, respectively.
