Women’s Soccer Kept off the Scoreboard at Kean

UNION, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders (5-6-3) were foiled on the road again as Kean (7-6-1) came away with a 2-0 victory.

Kean were red hot right off the bat - they put up five shots within the first ten minutes. Leila Ettayebi had a shot of her own, and the Scarlet Raiders got the first corner of the game, but Kean kept on pressing.

At the end of the first half, neither team had found a breakthrough. Ettayebi continued to fire away, and Ruby Hogue smashed one off the crossbar as well. Both sides were knocking on the door, but it just would not open.

Kean were once again coming at the Scarlet Raiders hard in the second half - they outshot the visitors 16-8 throughout the night. However, the Rutgers-Newark defense was holding strong. That was, until the 74th minute, when the Cougars won a penalty kick. Katelyn Greiner stepped up and put it away, and Kean stepped ahead of their opponent.

Rutgers-Newark tried to muster a response, but they were unable to put one in the back of the net. With two seconds left, Ella Petrosh added insult to injury with a second Cougars goal. It was a hard-fought defeat that will be tough to swallow for the Scarlet Raiders.

Women's soccer next plays at home this Saturday, October 19th at 7:00 pm. They will host The College of New Jersey with the hope of securing their second conference win.
