Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rutgers-Newark Falls to TCNJ on Frederick Douglass Field

NEWARK, NJ | It was a tough night for the Scarlet Raiders, as they allowed six goals to a nationally ranked TCNJ team that just could not be stopped. Final score: 6-0.

The Lions wasted no time getting the scoring going. In the 2nd minute, Ella Van Dine fired a bullet from 30 yards out into the top-right corner to give the visitors the early advantage. TCNJ put another one in less than a minute later, but it was ruled out for offside.

From there, the Scarlet Raiders could finally grow into the game. They tried to build up from the back, but the TCNJ midfield was too tenacious. The home team struggled to get out of their own half as the Lions kept pushing for a second. Eventually, they would get it. In the 43rd minute, Taylor Krott finished off of a freekick to double the lead. Heading into the half, the score stood at 2-0.

TCNJ weren't as quick off the mark in the second half as they were in the first, but they still got going. In minute 54, Ella Van Dine netted her second goal of the game. Three minutes later, Abby Najdzinowicz nodded in from a corner kick. In the blink of an eye, the Lions' lead had doubled.

The visitors weren't done there. Rachel Robichaud found Victoria D'Imperio in the 62nd minute to bring the tally to five. There was a break in scoring after this, but not a break in action. Each team continued to fight hard for the ball, with tackles flying everywhere. By the end of the night, a whopping 32 fouls had been committed.

There was one more moment to be had for TCNJ - Greta Bush tapped in from close range to tack on one more to an already commanding lead. In the end, it was a disappointing loss for the Scarlet Raiders, who have now gone scoreless in the last four consecutive games.

Rutgers-Newark will look to find their feet this Wednesday, October 23rd, when they will take on Stockton in Galloway, NJ.
