Women’s Soccer Picks Up a Point vs William Paterson

NEWARK, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders (5-4-3) come up empty, but so do the Pioneers (5-3-4), as the game ends with no goals scored: 0-0.

William Paterson looked good in the early stages. They had three corner kicks in the first ten minutes, although they were not able to turn any of them into shots on goal.

In fact, both teams struggled to get their attempts on target. Neither team had a shot on goal until minute 38, when Julia Fiorito of William Paterson fired one toward the top-left corner. Angela Amaya was equal to it, putting up one of her three saves for the night.

Despite the lack of big chances, there was plenty of excitement in this matchup. The ball went up and down the pitch, back and forth, as each team attacked with pace.

Early in the second half, a fortuitous bounce off of a Rutgers-Newark defender fell to the feet of Madelynn Spink. She had a great opportunity through on goal, but she could not keep her shot inside the post. A huge let off for the Scarlet Raiders.

In the 66th minute, the home team had their best chance of the night. Leila Ettayebi got past the Pioneers' defense, and found a clear shooting opportunity in the box. However, her shot could not beat the goalkeeper, Sarah Mantilla. Still no score.

Rutgers-Newark pushed hard in the final 20 minutes. Attack after attack, the Scarlet Raiders kept coming forward, but the William Paterson defense remained resolute. Emily Karlicki let a few fly from range, but it wasn't to be. It ended as hard-earned draw, as neither team could separate themselves from their opposition.

Women's soccer will hit the road next Saturday, October 12th. They'll head to Montclair, NJ to take on Montclair State at 1:00 PM.
