Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Scarlet Raiders End the Year with Setless Loss to William Paterson

WAYNE, NJ | Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball (13-17) fought hard, but could not come up with a set to show for it as William Paterson (19-9) won 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-13).

The Scarlet Raiders were playing strongly at the outset of the game. They led the Pioneers 9-7 in the first set, but relinquished that lead at 11-12 and never saw it again. It was neck and neck until the hosts went on a 6-1 run to finish out the set strong. It wasn't easy, but William Paterson took the 1-0 lead.

The second set was just as close as the first. Rutgers-Newark once again led for the first half, holding a narrow three point advantage at 13-10, but once again the Pioneers found another gear. They won eight straight points to establish a five point lead that they were able to comfortably ride out to the finish. In heartbreaking fashion, the home team doubled their set lead.

In set number three, it seemed as though the Scarlet Raiders might've run out of gas. They went down by five early, and never had the lead at any point. Despite the strong defensive effort of Elvin Karakaya, who ended the night with 15 digs, William Paterson closed out the game with a 12 point set victory.

Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball concludes their season with a 13-17 record, and a 1-7 conference record. As is common in the NJAC, this team was strong and confident, but struggled to withstand the gauntlet that is the conference schedule.
