MONTCLAIR, NJ - The Rutgers-Newark women's basketball team took on Montclair State in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader, falling to the home team, 76-38.
It started off Rocky for Rutgers-Newark as it was only able to connect on two field goals in the first quarter, falling into an early deficit.
The Raiders doubled their offensive presence in the second quarter, collecting eight points in the period. It cut Montclair State's lead down 39-12 at the break, leaving Rutgers-Newark to make some adjustments in the next two quarters.
Montclair State had 30 points off turnovers aiding in 25 fast break points. That mixed with the Raiders' struggles across the board, made it very hard for Rutgers-Newark to fight back. They scored 13 points in each of the final two quarters, but time ran out before the Raiders could really make a dent in the score.
Rutgers-Newark (3-6, 0-3 NJAC) was led in scoring by Tracey Ilderis who had 10 points and five rebounds for the Raiders. Zoe Francis-Bunklry added nine points and seven rebounds.
Montclair State (5-2, 1-2 NJAC) was guided in scoring by Shannion Hughes who had 15 points, while Alyssa Craigwell had 13 points and eight rebounds. The Hawks connected on 29 field goals and went
The Raiders return to the court on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at William Paterson. The game is set for a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
