READING, PA | The Rutgers-Newark women's soccer team won its second straight game with a 2-0 win over Albright College on Saturday evening.
Leila Ettayebi put herself back in sole possession of second in the nation with 9 goals this season after scoring the opening goal against Albright (1-2-1). The Scarlet Raiders (3-3) took 17 shots and put eight on frame while Albright took five and put two on target.
Ettayebi was active early, firing a shot toward the net in the first three minutes of the game. After sending four shots toward goal, Ettayebi finally broke through and found the back of the net in the 17th minute. Vielka Fernandez followed suit in the 32nd minute to double the Scarlet Raiders' tally and take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Defense was the main focus in the second half as the teams combined for eight shots with six coming from the Scarlet Raiders. The final shot of the game came off of the foot of Emily Karlicki in the 71st minute and was saved by McKenna Levan. The remainder of the game was played between the 18-yard boxes.
