Ettayebi Continues to Score, But Mount Saint Mary Takes the Win

Newburgh, NY | In a hard-fought competition, Rutgers University-Newark (1-2-0) once again felt the pain of a late loss, as Mount Saint Mary College (1-2-0) emerged victorious. Final score 3-2.

The heart of the Scarlet Raiders' attack, Leila Ettayebi, opened the scoring with a 30th minute goal to put the visitors ahead. However, the Knights fought back hard. They scored two goals in 30 seconds in the 39th and 40th minutes, flipping the script in the blink of an eye. Rutgers-Newark went into the half down by a score of 2-1.

Early in the second half, Ettayebi struck again. The Moroccan star evened things up with her 6th goal in just 3 games - already bettering her tally from the entirety of last season.

However, it wasn't to be for the Scarlet Raiders. Isabella Williams found the back of the net with less than two minutes remaining, and the Knights managed to hold on for the win.

It was heartbreak once more for Rutgers-Newark women's soccer, but they go again this Saturday, September 7th. They will take on Penn State Behrend at 11:00 am right here in Newark, NJ on Frederick Douglass Field.
