Box Score Camden, N.J. – The Rutgers University–Newark women's soccer team battled Rutgers–Camden to a hard-fought 0–0 draw on Wednesday evening at the Camden Athletic Complex. The Scarlet Raiders moved to 6-4-1 on the season, while the Scarlet Raptors shifted to 1-4-5.
The opening half featured quality chances for both sides. Rutgers–Newark's Ruby Hogue came close on multiple occasions, firing one attempt over the bar and striking the post on another. Mariana Valencia and Emily Karlicki also tested Camden keeper Giselle Lizardi, but she stood tall in goal. On the other end, Shaina Sackett matched her counterpart with key saves against efforts from Kylie Barber and Ashlee Schlagenhaft to keep the match scoreless at the break.
The Scarlet Raiders continued to apply pressure in the second half, earning five corner kicks in the match and creating several dangerous looks. Valencia forced Lizardi into another save early in the period, while Karlicki and Hogue pushed forward in search of the breakthrough. Camden's Rylie Gill had one of the best chances for the home side with a header, but Sackett handled it cleanly to preserve the shutout.
In the end, neither team was able to find the back of the net as the defenses held firm. Rutgers–Newark finished with nine shots, including six on target, while Camden recorded ten shots with five on frame. Sackett tallied five saves in goal for the Scarlet Raiders, and Lizardi collected six for the Scarlet Raptors.
The Scarlet Raiders will look to secure their first conference win on the road when they travel to face William Paterson on Saturday, October 4th.
