Montclair, NJ – #23 Montclair State University hosted Rutgers-Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) men's soccer showdown at MSU Soccer Park. The Red Hawks emerged victorious with a 6–4 win, improving their record to 10–1–2 overall and 3–1 in NJAC play, while the Scarlet Raiders fell to 7–6–1 and 1–3 in conference action.
The match was an early offensive spectacle, with both teams finding the back of the net in the opening half. Rutgers-Newark took the lead in the 3rd minute through Nicholas Gomez, but Montclair State responded swiftly. Kenneth Neves equalized in the 27th minute but Ian Brown responded a few minutes later with a header to give the Scarlet Raiders back the lead. Tomas Monteiro evened the game up once again for the Red Hawks a few minutes later. Kenet Lopez extended the lead to 3–2 in the 34th minute.
Early in the second half, Kevin Contreras added a fourth goal pushing the lead to 4–2. Ian Brown added another goal for Rutgers-Newark, but Montclair State maintained their lead to secure the win.
